VERBAL ASSAULT: FINDING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PUNK AND HIP HOP
 
 
Filmmaker James Spooner, Suicide King James Kennedy, Zulu Nation founder Africa Bambaata, journalist Aaron Shuman, and Rock Steady Crew member Pop Master Fabel explore the relationship between punk and hardcore hip hop, as genre, as social movements, and as entries into larger discussions about race --and, in Spooner's words, "the illusion and failure of integration." Both celebrate  sexual deviance, criminality, and certain kinds of marginality, and both are driven by the creative expression of rage. So what's keeping them apart?
